Having the right equipment on hand makes daily bird care straightforward and helps your companion stay comfortable from the start. You do not need every gadget on the market, but a few well-chosen essentials cover the basics of housing, feeding, and maintenance.
The cage
Select a cage that allows your bird to spread their wings without touching the bars on both sides at once. Bar spacing must suit the species—too wide and heads or bodies can get stuck; too narrow and toes may catch. Horizontal bars help smaller birds climb. Look for secure doors, removable trays for cleaning, and feeders that attach firmly.

Perches and resting spots
Variety supports foot health. Combine natural wood branches of different diameters with suitable commercial perches. Avoid sandpaper perch covers, which can irritate feet over time. Position perches so droppings do not land in food or water.

- Cuttlebone or mineral supplement as recommended for your species

Feeding equipment
